One of the honors of my life was getting to know Billy Turner. He was the man who trained Seattle Slew to win the Triple Crown. He taught me so much, and I miss our calls. Billy was a genius. I could write stories for days about the things he taught me. One gem he gave me was a term called the "Saturday Horse." If you understand it, it can make you lots of money at the track.
Billy preached to me that Seattle Slew was a Saturday horse. This means he was a horse who ran on Saturdays. Why is this important? Because the biggest races in America typically run on a Saturday. You want to showcase the best horses on this day because that is when the world is watching.
Seeing a horse you think could be a Kentucky Derby horse running on a Thursday could be a sign that he is not that good. I would stay away from betting them. Look for the Saturday horses when you are laying money down. They let you down a lot less.
Improbable Luck is running on a Saturday. Let's hope he turns out to be a Saturday horse. See you all on Saturday, March 15th!
