Each year, horse racing holds its own version of the Academy Awards. It's called the Eclipse Awards. Winning one is a horseman's lifelong dream. BIGPLAY will be represented in the Moment of the Year category for Seize the Grey's 2024 Preakness win. Here is all you need to know.

2024 was the year of Seize the Grey for BIGPLAY Sports. Our own Ken Myles was all over the racing scene with MyRacehorse and the stunning grey son of Arrogate. Ken walked the Horse over to the saddling ring for the Preakness Stakes. Less than an hour later, the "People's Horse" won the middle leg of the Triple Crown. In doing so, 2,570 micro-share owners of Seize the Grey got to live out their ultimate dream.

Horse racing used to be called the "Sport of Kings." The richest of the rich were able to compete at the top level. The rest of us could only bet on it. In 2024, MyRacehorse showed people that anyone could participate at the highest level and win in racing once and for all. The company had won a Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic in 2020. This moment was different because Seize the Grey was 100% owned and raced by them. That had never happened on the biggest stage. It put an exclamation mark on the point they set out to prove. Horse racing was now in the hands of the people, not only the tycoons.

There were other big moments last year. Thorpedo Anna winning the Travers will get a lot of attention. A filly took on the boys and nearly won. The top three finishers in the race will likely be the Horse of the Year candidates. The Kentucky Derby was thrilling, too. Three horses hit the wire, separated by mere noses. However, if you are looking for a moment that signaled an inflection point in the history of horse racing, the 2024 Preakness is where it is at. You could feel a change was in the air when Michael Behrens hoisted the trophy. Things were never going to be the same.
