As we have been reporting, Improbable Luck had a minor leg injury that became infected a few weeks back. This is not that uncommon for young horses as they scrape and nick themselves growing into their bodies. Thanks to the staff of our hall of fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, it was quickly recognized and he was sent to Rood and Riddle, the top equine veterinarian, for treatment. He was put on an antibiotic regimen that appears to have done the trick.

The original thought was it may take time for him to recover and sending him to a farm may be the best option. He was released from Rood & Riddle last weekend and was sent to Mulholland Springs Farm in Lexington. When he left the clinic he was trotting effortlessly and seemed to have handled everything well mentally. Both the veterinary team and trainer D. Wayne Lukas felt he may not need much down time before returning to training, but D. Wayne wanted to be sure he was back to 100% before sending him south. The Lukas team houses many of their horses in Arkansas and race them at Oaklawn Park over the winter. 

We're happy to report Improbable Luck was quickly cleared to travel to Oaklawn Park and has already made it to Hot Springs. He will tack walk for a bit to allow him to settle back into the Lukas program and build up some strength / conditioning. "Tack walk" means walking a horse while he's wearing all the necessary riding equipment like a saddle, bridle, and reins, essentially getting the horse ready to be ridden, but not actually riding him. This will get Improbable Luck back into the rhythm of training.  He really seems to have taken this setback in stride and shown a good, strong constitution in the process. Wayne will determine when he's ready for an increased workload.

We anticipate his debut race at Oaklawn early next year. We can't wait!
